Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis opened up Florida while maintaining safety protocols almost eight weeks ago.

Pandemic panic-mongers declared that Florida would become America’s COVID-19 coffin.

Well, as it turns out, Florida’s actually doing pretty well, despite all the doomsayers who cast doubt on his leadership and competence.

Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, there have now been 1.9 million new unemployment claims in a state with a labor force of 6.5 million since March 15.

The state unemployment rate is 27%.

The jobless rate in Lancaster County is above 22%.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, 70% of COVID-19 deaths have been among those in nursing home, personal care homes and assisted living residences..

The average age of Pennsylvanians who have died is 79.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, as of May 17, 2020, Pennsylvania has more COVID deaths over age 100 than under age 45.

Pennsylvania has more deaths over age 95 than under age 60. Pennsylvania has more deaths over 85 than under 80.

About 12% had 4 comorbidities, about 23% had 3 comorbidities, about 27% had 2 comorbidities and about 11% had no comorbidities.

61% have had hypertension, 54% had heart disease, 37% had diabetes and 30% had chronic pulmonary disease.

There are 37,000 beds in Pennsylvania hospitals. About 2,500 are occupied by COVID-19 patients, or roughly 7%.

There are less than 530 patients in hospitals on ventilators, or about 1.4% of all hospital beds.

There is no reason for Pennsylvania to continue Wolf and Levine’s lockdown. The state can open up with simple precautions on social distancing and the like, as endorsed by the CDC.

This lockdown has to end.
